People around the world are surprised on the victory of Donald Trump in the United States presidential election. The eight years of Democratic rule has come to an end following Trump’s success against Hillary Clinton, but at the same time people are uncertain about what is about to come.

U.S. stock futures slipped 5% at one point and the U.S. dollar also sank amid economic and global uncertainty following Trump’s victory.

Soon after the results, Trump said ‘’it is time for us to come together as one united people.” He also said that he had a great economic strategy to rebuild American infrastructure and boost U.S. economic growth by two folds.

Most of the people are surprised because opinion polls before the elections indicated Clinton’s lead over Trump. However, Trump’s promise to be the ‘’greatest jobs president that God ever created” helped him to gain support of white non-college educated workers.

Trump’s success has raised a number of questions as his campaign focussed to take U.S on a more isolationist and protectionist path. He has pledged to implement a 35 percent tariff on products exported to America by U.S-based companies that relocated themselves abroad.

He also proposed banning entry of people from war-torn Middle Eastern region. Earlier, he also suggested to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. He also vowed to build a wall on the southern border with Mexico to stop undocumented immigrants.

During the election campaign, Trump admired Russian President Vladimir Putin and suggested that South Korea and Japan should be given permission to develop nuclear weapons. He also vowed to renegotiate the agreement between Iran and the West that eased sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

However, a number of western governments are uncertain if Trump will be able to fulfil promises he made during the election campaign.

An anti-Trump crowd of nearly 500 people gathered outside White House following his victory, many apparently in surprise and tears.
