Google likely to unveil its Pixel phones on Oct. 4 event

Alphabet Inc’s Google is anticipated to roll out new handsets at an event on Tuesday along with some other gadgets including a voice-controlled speaker system named ‘’Home’’ that will compete in the market against Amazon’s Echo device.

The highly anticipated smartphones will be launched under the Pixel brand, swapping the Nexus brand. The company has been selling Nexus handsets since 2010, but the phones struggled to boost its share in a market dominated by Samsung and Apple.

The two new Pixel smartphones would reportedly carry a price tag of around $600 that will put them in the high end of the market, where they will compete with Apple and Samsung’s smartphones.

Some recently published reports suggest the phones will have 4GB of RAM, an 8MP front camera, a 12MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation and a Qualcomm’s new 821 processor. The phones would come up with AMOLED displays and fingerprint scanners on the back.

Google is also anticipated to launch the next version of Android Nougat 7.1 that will feature AI (artificial intelligence).
